Gourmet Pixel were proud to partner with Apps for Good Awards 2015, to help 3 winning teams make their apps a reality. One of those teams was Book'd, who wished to create an app to help teenagers discover new books to read.
Alejandro, Ben & Harry from Dr. Challoner's Grammar School, Buckinghamshire won the Productivity category powered by SAP at the Apps for Good Awards 2015
Over a number of months we worked closely with the teams to help make their ideas reality. This involved workshops for brainstorming and discussing priorities in terms of features and functionality, along with numerous Skype video calls. It was a fun project for the team and great to see such young minds inspired by the potential of technology and able to gain such an insight into the industry we work in.
The app was developed with a range of great features to help teenagers discover new books to read and share them with friends.
Create book clubs, add books, invite friends.
Read full descriptions and reviews via Google Books.
Share your book club with friends, join theirs, see what people are reading!
The apps were offically launched at a special event in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which provided an inspiring backdrop as the kids proudly presented the finished apps they had been working hard on. Speeches were given by Debbie Forster and Bob Schukai, along with a talk by a very inspiring young woman called Mohima Ahmed, who was a winning team member of the first year Apps for Good started 5 years ago.
Steve Brown of Future Tech Girls has written a great post about his experience of the evening here.
